Welcome to the ePlan My Wedding Blog

We are so excited that ePlan My Wedding is FINALLY here. A big thank you goes to Ryan from 2nd Street Creative for all the design work. I truly could not have completed this site without him.

My goal for this blog is to be informative (but not boring) for couples completing most of their wedding planning online. In order to accomplish that, we have narrowed down the topics that will be posted on each day of the week. Then we came up with some cute (and slightly cheesy) titles.

Here is what you can expect:
Mind Your Manners Mondays – all your etiquette questions answered
DIY Tuesdays – we’ve scoured the internet for some of the best wedding DIY projects and will share them with you
Green Your Wedding Wednesdays – wedding tips to help save the environment one action at a time
Things We’re Loving Thursdays – all wedding related – things that catch our eye and inspire
Frugal Fridays – giving you ideas on how to save money when planning your wedding

P.S. We would love for you to follow us on twitter!

Green Your Wedding: Reuse Unwanted Books

One way to recycle old and unwanted books is to take them to a used bookstore or the Goodwill to be read by someone else. But, why not use them for your wedding? If you (or your fiance) are a bookwork, teacher, or lover of words, using old books as part of your wedding is a great way to customize and add your personality to your celebration. Check out these great ideas of reusing books by the Folksy seller, Bookity.

Wedding DIY Tuesday: DIY Birch Tealight Holders

This tutorial by Art Meet Craft is perfect for any rustic wedding. Simple and pretty – I would love to have some of these on my reception tables.
Supplies (all pictures and instructions from Art Meet Craft):
Cut pieces of birch or other tree branch, about 3″ in diameter and 2″ deep
Tealight candles, 1 1/2″ in diameter (Partylite and others with thick plastic cups will need a larger drill bit)
Tools:
Drill with 1 1/2″ hole bit
Vice or table clamp
Instructions:
1. Clamp the slice of branch down before you attempt drilling, they are impossible to hold!
2. Next, just drill straight down into the middle, no need to be perfectly centered, and check every once-in-a-while to see if you have the right depth for your tealight. (After you do a few, you will get the feel of how long to drill for perfect depth and it goes faster.)
3. Then pop your tealight in and you’re done. Make sure you keep the candle in it’s metal or plastic liner cup, a table engulfed in flame is surely the quickest way to ruin a party!

(Please note that these should not be left unattended as they could be a fire hazard. They are probably best for outdoor receptions.)

Green Your Wedding: Reclaimed Wood Wedding Signs

A big trend in weddings right now are those adorable directional wood wedding signs placed in the ground so guests know which way to go. However, it is not always easy to find a rustic looking piece of wood that just happens to be a perfectly shaped sign. Luckily the etsy seller, True Connection makes custom signs from reclaimed cedar. I love the fact that each one has its own personality due to color variation and grain in the wood.

Wedding DIY Tuesday: DIY Paper Lanterns

It doesn’t get much better than a wedding DIY project that is nearly free to make. If you have scrapbook paper, ribbon, a pair of scissors, and tape at home, this project will cost you nothing at all!

These cute paper lanterns were devised by the smart lady behind the Salty Pineapple

Here is how to make them (instructions and pictures from Salty Pineapple You Need (for each lantern):
2 pieces of paper in contrasting colors (I used 8×8 scrapbooking paper because it was what I had on hand)
6″ piece of ribbon
Scissors
One or more of the following: tape, glue, scissors

To Make:
1. Fold one piece of paper in half (lengthwise so it’s long).
2. Starting at the fold, cut a straight line to within about 1/2″ of the edge. DON’T cut all the way to the edge.
3. Continue to make cuts parallel to your first one, an even distance from each other, say about 3/4″ from each other.
4. When you’ve completed your cuts, open the folded paper. Roll paper so fold is pointing outward in the middle of the lantern.
5. Tape, staple, or glue the top edges together.
6. Repeat lantern-making process with contrasting color, but change the width between cuts. So, if you cut 3/4″ from each other on the first lantern, do 1/4″ cuts. Also, don’t fasten lantern together yet.
7. After you’re done cutting, open up like you did the first one, but roll lantern small enough to slip inside of first lantern. Insert into first lantern.
8. Allow second lantern to open up inside the first lantern, then tape the two together at the top edges to secure.
9. Put glue on one edge of a 6″ piece of ribbon, and insert between two lanterns at the top. Squeeze to secure ribbon between two lanterns.
10. Repeat for second edge of ribbon, across from first side of ribbon. That’s your handle.

I might just have to make a few of these for my office!

Green Your Wedding: Heart Birdseed Favors

With all the favors out there that have an unnecessary amount of waste (or end up not even being used), it is refreshing to see a great favor idea such as these heart birdseed favors crafted by 2 birds in love on etsy.com.

At around only $1.00 each, these favors are very affordable. In addition, all favors are made from locally grown organic wild bird seed and all natural ingredients are added to ‘bind’ the seeds into shape. Your guests can take home and hang their feeder and watch nature’s spleandor come alive.

The favors are also available in bird and baby duck shapes. Too cute!
